Helping clients apply for a Good Loan

Good Shepherd NZ has a prioritised pathway for Financial Mentors supporting clients to apply for a Good Loan.

Assessing a client’s eligibility for a Good Loan

Clients need to be able to meet the criteria for getting a Good Loan, no matter how great their need.  Most importantly, we need to be sure that a client can afford their repayments as well as sustainably meet all of their household’s ongoing financial commitments.

Financial Mentors play two key roles in assisting their clients to get a loan:

  • identify when a client is in the financial position to successfully apply for a Good Loan
  • help clients get into the right position to apply for a loan.

Download our two-page guide that provides essential information Financial Mentors need to get good outcomes, as fast as possible.

Good Shepherd can provide training to Financial Mentors who want to get a better understand about how Good Loans work and how best to assist your clients to obtain a loan.

How to get your client’s application prioritised

Good Shepherd NZ will prioritise a Financial Mentor’s client’s loan application when they:

  • have undertaken an assessment of the clients’ expenses and financial situation in line with our two-page Good Loans Guide for Financial Mentors, and
  • feel the client meets the requirements for a Good Loan, and
  • can stay involved with the client during the application process and provide assistance to them if needed.

Start the application process with your client by:

  1. Using our standard client online enquiry form. Take note of the enquiry number generated.
  2. E-mail financialmentors@goodshepherd.org.nz with your client’s name, enquiry number, and the value and purpose of the loan sought. Make sure you also attach the Financial Mentor’s standard privacy waiver.

If your client’s application isn’t eligible to be prioritised, but still may be eligible for a Good Loan, your client should complete an online enquiry.
