Marian Kleist
Director
Tangata Tiriti. Based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.

Personally and professionally, Marian is committed to improving the lives of women and girls. Her very first job in a community development role at YWCA set the direction for the rest of Marian’s working life. Social justice, particularly for women, became her calling.
Marian trained as a social worker. She worked in women’s health, as a probation officer, and supporting victims of sexual abuse, asylum seekers and victims of crime. She is a member of the NZ Parole Board.
In addition to service delivery roles and organisations, Marian has long advocated for women’s rights and empowerment. This includes pushing for abortion rights and pay equity, and supporting the Union movement.
Marian’s considerable experience is invaluable in our governance. She understands the challenges faced by communities and community service organisations. She brings a very practical eye, strong communication, and the ability to break perceived problems down to more manageable levels.
