Matt focuses on identifying, developing, and leading projects and initiatives to increase the impact of our services.
His commitment to social justice work goes back a long way. Matt has worked with Good Shepherd for over a decade, after an initial interest in how microfinance could help tackle disadvantage in a developed country. He is passionate about collaborating to develop new initiatives, improve delivery for clients and establish partnerships.
Matt has worked as a lawyer in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. He spent 15 years in international development and aid, working for multilateral development agencies, the New Zealand Government and non-government organisations.
Matt’s most recent international work focussed on community development including designing and overseeing microfinance projects in Bangladesh. He has lived in Laos and spent time in Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Bougainville and Bangladesh. Matt was awarded the Friendship Medal by the President of Lao PDR, for work supporting development of Lao legal system.
Matt believes strongly in social justice. His current role lets him find new and improved ways to address issues including growing inequities of opportunity in Aotearoa.
