Matt focuses on identifying, developing, and leading projects and initiatives to increase the impact of our services.
Matt has long been committed to social justice work. Originally attracted to see how microfinance could help tackle disadvantage in a developed country, he has been with Good Shepherd for over a decade. He is passionate about collaborating to develop new initiatives, improve delivery for clients and establish partnerships.
Prior to joining the team, Matt worked as a lawyer in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. He spent 15 years in international development and aid, working for multi-lateral development agencies, the New Zealand Government and non-government organisations.
His most recent international work focussed on community development including designing and overseeing microfinance projects in Bangladesh. He has lived in Laos and spent large amounts of time visiting Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Bougainville and Bangladesh. In 2024, Matt was 2004 awarded the Friendship Medal by the President of Lao PDR, for work supporting development of Lao legal system.
Matt has a strong belief in social justice. He is frustrated with growing inequities of opportunity in Aotearoa. His current role lets him find new and improved ways to address these issues. He brings a logical mind, extensive experience in programme design, a positive attitude and more.
